Website Infrastructure

There are several elements needed to set-up a web site, some are common to all sites and some are needed only by those with more advanted requirements. In order to have a website that people can go to you will need to decide what to call your site and where to host it.

Domain Name: A domain name provides an identity for your site and is an address to access the site (for example: www.AdaptiveWave.com). These names are unique and once someone has registered a particular name, it is not available to anyone else.

Hosting: Where you keep your web pages is called “hosting” and commonly people rent space on web hosting companies servers.

Web Servers: One of the first things to consider when selecting a hosting provider is what operating system the server will run.
